Definition: The word "Abadan" means a day or a season in Islamic calendar, it's also a month in Arabic language. It is the first lunar month of the Islamic year. It is called "Sunnah" because of its special significance in Islam. It comes from the word "Abaan", which means "first". The name 'Abadan' was given to the month by Prophet Muhammad (SAW) himself, he said: "I have appointed you this month as a reminder for the believers" (Surat Al-Anbiya, 19). He added that it would be better if we start from the first day of Abadan. It is the first night after the last day of Muharram and the first day after Ramadan. There are some reasons why 'Abadan' is called the "first" lunar month in Islam: - Its name comes from a word that means "first". This is a clear sign that it has been designated as such. - The Islamic calendar, especially the lunar calendar, starts from the new moon of this month. - It also symbolizes the beginning of the Muslim year and the first full lunar cycle (40 days).
