Definition: The word "Adyghe" means a "highland of Scotland" in English. It is one of the four principal Highlanders, also called the Hiberno-Irish of Scotland. These tribes were originally from central and northern Europe. They lived on the Scottish highlands between 700 BC to about 1250 AD. In their culture, they followed a strict code of law which prescribed a certain hierarchy within the clan system. The Adyghe language is known for its complex grammar and vocabulary, which includes several hundred loanwords from the languages spoken in France, Germany, and other parts of Europe. The Adyghe people are also known to have developed their own language and customs unique to themselves.
