Definition: Abutilon, or abutilonus, is a genus of flowering plants native to southern Europe and Asia Minor that were cultivated primarily for their aromatic essential oil. The plant has a long history in medicine dating back to ancient times when it was used to treat various ailments including diarrhea and coughs. In modern times, the use of this plant has become popular as a natural remedy for respiratory problems such as bronchitis. There is currently no scientific evidence linking abutilon with any specific health benefits or side effects. However, some studies have suggested that abutilon may help alleviate pain and improve sleep quality, especially in those experiencing chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).
