Definition: Something that belongs to part of another main thing; something additional and subordinate, an attachment.
Alright class, settle down, let’s take a look!
Today we’re tackling the word “accessories,” it’s a lovely little term. The dictionary gives us a good start, you see –
“Something that belongs to part of another main thing…”
Think about it like this: A car needs tires, right? Those tires are
accessories
to the car itself. They're important, they add to its function, but they aren’t
the
car!
And then it says “something additional and subordinate,” which means… well, it’s extra! It’s not the main thing, but it improves it or makes it more complete. Like a scarf on a coat – lovely and warm, but the coat is still the star of the show.
“An attachment” is another good clue, isn't it? Like buttons on a shirt, or decorations on a cake!
So, in short,
accessories are things that go
with
something else to make it better, more stylish, or simply more useful.
