Definition: A corneal ulcer with a large, dry white exudate. It is one of the most common eye infections in the elderly. A corneal ulcer (also known as a corneal pustule) is an inflammation or scar on the outside of the eye caused by injury to the cornea. This can be caused by contact lenses, allergies, infection, trauma, dryness or other causes. The word "acroarthritis" is used to describe this type of corneal ulcer and refers to any large, red, crusty exudate that forms on the outside of the eye.
