Definition: Archbishop
The person in charge of a church, usually elected by bishops at the end of the synod or other church council, to be responsible for pastoral matters.
It is also used as an adjective to describe someone who has been appointed as bishop.
In Roman Catholicism, a bishop is often referred to as "the archbishop," as there was one bishop who had been named by Pope Gregory the Great.
