Definition: A group, often named or numbered, to which items are assigned based on similarity or defined criteria.
Alright class, settle down and let’s take a peek,
At the word ‘categories,’ a concept we must seek!
The dictionary gives us a helpful little line,
Saying it's about grouping things, in a structured design.
Think of it like this: you have toys galore,
Cars, dolls, and blocks – wanting something more!
You might put them into groups, neat and bright,
Like ‘Vehicles’ – cars and trucks with all their might!
Or perhaps ‘Toys for Girls,’ a lovely, colorful plea,
With dolls and stuffed animals for you and me.
"A group, often named or numbered," that's the key,
To help us organize what we see!
“Based on similarity or defined criteria,” you see,
We’re sorting things together – thoughtfully and free!
It could be by color, size, or even a theme,
Creating categories is a wonderful scheme.
So, ‘categories’ means to sort with care,
Grouping items based on what they share!
Does that make sense, my dear students bright?
Any questions you have, let's talk about it right!
