Definition: One of four seasons, traditionally the second, marked by the longest and typically hottest days of the year due to the inclination of the Earth and thermal lag. Typically regarded as being from June 21 to September 22 or 23 in parts of the USA, the months of June, July and August in the United Kingdom and the months of December, January and February in the Southern Hemisphere.
Alright class, settle down now, let’s talk about summer, how!
It's a season bright, a joyful hue,
A time for sunshine, fresh and new.
But let’s dig a little deeper, you see,
To really understand what summer means to me – and to you, naturally!
The dictionary gives us facts so grand,
About the Earth and how it stands.
It says our planet's tilted just so right,
Creating days that are long and bright!
(Think of a spinning top, you see,
That leans slightly for all to agree!)
Because of this tilt, the sun shines down,
The longest hours of golden renown.
And we feel the warmth, it’s true, it's right,
A hotter season, shining bright!
Different places have their own view,
Of when summer starts, and when it’s through.
In America, June twenty-first is the date,
Then August ends, sealing summer’s fate.
The UK welcomes June, July, and August too,
While down in the South, winter shines anew!
December, January, February's embrace,
Summer’s a feeling, across every place!
So remember this, my little scholars dear,
Summer is sunshine, banishing fear!
A season of fun, a happy delight,
Let's celebrate summer, shining bright!
Now, are there any questions you might have?
