Definition: The Haemophilus B conjugate vaccine, also known as the Meningococcal protein conjugate vaccine, is a type of meningococcal vaccine that is conjugated with an alpha-globulina (alpha-gal) protein from the bacterium Haemophilus b. The beta-globulina (beta-gal) protein from the bacterium Streptococcus pyogenes serves as the carrier for the Meningococcal protein. In this vaccine, two different strains of meningococcal bacteria are used to produce the conjugated Meningococcal protein: one strain, the "MeningoConjugate", and another, the "BetaConjugate". The conjugation process involves attaching beta-globulina to a pre-existing alpha-globulina receptor on a target cell. The beta-conjugate vaccine has been shown to be more effective at preventing meningococcal disease than the MeningoConjugate vaccine. This is due in part to the fact that the beta-conjugate vaccine includes a portion of the beta-globulina protein from Streptococcus pyogenes, which acts as an antitoxin against meningococci. However, it's important to note that not all strains of meningococcal bacteria are susceptible to this vaccine. For example, some strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae are resistant to the conjugated Meningococcal protein and thus may not be effective for preventing meningococcal disease.
