Definition: Parnassus, in the Hebrew scriptures (see 1 Samuel 26:8) means "the land of Israel" or "the land that the Lord had given to Abraham." It was originally a place called Parimim on the border between Egypt and Canaan, but it was later transferred from one side to the other. The term appears in Genesis 14:37 as the name of the land where God told Abraham to go when he went into captivity at Gibeon.
