Definition: Achromia is a condition in which people perceive light as a single color, rather than two or more colors. This can occur when people have difficulty distinguishing between different hues of light, such as red, yellow, green, blue, and orange. In achromatopsia, the brain's visual cortex is unable to process information about individual colors, leading to the perception of a single color. Achromatic vision is often associated with certain eye diseases or disorders, including macular degeneration, age-related cataracts, and retinal vein occlusions. It can also be a sign of an underlying medical condition.
