Definition: Acromyotonia is a progressive muscular dystrophy affecting the upper limb caused by myasthenia gravis, a disorder caused by antibodies in the immune system attacking the motor neurons that control the muscles. The condition results in muscle weakness, atrophy and wasting due to damage to these neurons. It can also lead to tremors, dyskinesias (trigeminal neuralgia) and other symptoms such as numbness and spasticity (muscle spasms). Treatment options include medication, surgery, and physical therapy.
