Definition: Aniline dye refers to a type of synthetic textile dyeing process, typically made with plant-based dyes in which the entire pigment line (dye) is dyed directly into the fabric without a prior film coating. This technique enables the dye to reach the fibers and absorb them more effectively than other methods due to its lack of surface contact. It was first used for textile production by the French chemist Jean-Louis Gobet in 1892.
