Definition: A settlement; an area with residential districts, shops and amenities, and its own local government; especially one larger than a village and smaller than a city.
Alright class, settle down, letâs take a look!
Today weâre tackling the word "town," and it's quite a lovely thing to know. The dictionary has given us a good starting point, you see â
âA settlement,â thatâs where it begins,
A place for people, where life often spins.
With âresidential districts,â homes in rows,
Where families live and happily compose.
Then there are the "shops," a bustling scene,
For buying treats and things that convene!
And "amenities" â oh, what do they mean?
Like parks and libraries, a wonderful sheen!
It has its own âlocal government,â you see,
Making rules for all, for you and me.
Larger than a village, quiet and small,
But smaller than a city, standing tall.
So, in short my students, itâs quite clear:
a town is a community, a place to be, with people, places, and things for you and me!
Does that make sense? Any questions before we move on?
